Payments software for boutique fitness studios

Studio revenue is almost entirely recurring, so payment reliability is the business. Enterprise Pay Gateway bills memberships on a schedule with automatic retries, sells class packs as one-off products, and takes card-on-file charges for late cancellations. Payouts go to your own bank account on a fixed monthly subscription plus a platform fee from 0.20% to 0.75%, with Stripe's processing billed separately by Stripe.

Typical membership

$99–$249/month

Recurring by default, which makes involuntary churn from failed cards the largest recoverable revenue leak in the category.

Recurring fit

Very high

Memberships, class packs on auto-renew and add-ons all bill on a schedule.

Late-cancel cost

1 capped spot

A no-show in a capped class cannot be resold. A card on file with a published policy changes behaviour immediately.

Where the money leaks

Involuntary churn from failed cards

Members rarely quit at the moment their card fails; they quit because nobody recovered the payment. Retries and a billing portal recover most of it automatically.

Class packs expire uncollected

Packs sold at the desk in cash or by transfer are hard to track. Selling them as products records the purchase and the revenue in one place.

Late-cancel policies are not enforced

Without a card on file, the policy is a suggestion. With one, it is automatic and applies equally to everyone.

Freezes and pauses handled by hand

Pausing and resuming memberships manually causes billing mistakes that cost trust. Scheduled billing with a portal removes most of them.

The four payment flows you need

  1. 1

    Membership

Bill monthly with automatic retries on decline and a self-serve portal for card updates and cancellations.

  2. 2

    Class pack

Sell packs as one-off products through hosted checkout, collected up front.

  3. 3

    Late-cancel fee

Charge the published fee against the card on file when a member cancels inside the window.

  4. 4

    Retail and workshops

Sell apparel, supplements and one-off workshops from the same storefront page.

What studio payment processing costs

Stripe bills card processing directly to your account — 2.9% plus 30 cents is the published US online card rate at the time of writing.

Enterprise Pay Gateway charges a fixed monthly subscription from $49 plus a platform fee: 0.75% on Starter, 0.60% on Growth, 0.40% on Pro, negotiated 0.20%–0.35% for multi-studio operators.

A studio billing $45,000 a month fits Starter or Growth. On Growth that is $99 plus roughly $270 in platform fees, alongside Stripe's processing.

Recovering failed memberships

Around one in ten recurring charges fails at some point in a year. Retrying over several days, emailing a direct billing-portal link and pausing access on a clear schedule recovers the majority without staff involvement.

Track recovered revenue separately. Most studios discover that involuntary churn was a larger number than their voluntary cancellations.

Policies members accept

Publish the late-cancel window and fee at signup and repeat it on the checkout description. Enforcement is only defensible when the member agreed in advance.

Keep fees proportionate to the class price. Punitive fees generate disputes; a modest, consistently applied fee changes behaviour without them.

Frequently asked questions

Can a studio bill memberships automatically?
Yes. Memberships are recurring products billed on a schedule, with automatic retries on a declined card and a billing portal where members update details or cancel.
Can we charge a late-cancellation fee?
Yes, when the member agreed to the policy at signup. Charge the published amount against the card on file and keep the fee proportionate to the class price to avoid disputes.
How do class packs work?
Sell the pack as a one-off product through hosted checkout. The full amount is collected up front and the member redeems classes over time.
What does it cost?
Stripe's processing fee plus a platform fee. Enterprise Pay Gateway charges $49 to $199 a month plus 0.75% down to 0.40%, with negotiated pricing for multi-site operators.
